Cursive U worksheets
Cursive U worksheets for third grade, for second and fourth graders too. The sheet traces capital U and lowercase u on alternate rows as dotted outlines on penmanship lines, with room to write each one alone. Lowercase u is a good warm-up for w and y, which start the same way.

One page for every cursive letter
Each cursive letter has its own page, with how the capital and the lowercase are formed and a sheet of that one letter to trace.
What's on each sheet
- One letter, capital and small. Trace the letter on each line. Then write it yourself on the rest of the line. 6 rows per page.
Every version prints on US Letter or A4, with its answer key on the last page.
A mixed sheet that draws letters from the whole alphabet prints from 3rd grade cursive alphabet.
How to teach this
Capital U starts with a small hook on the left, a little below the top line. Swing up to the top line, slide down, curve along the bottom line and up the right side to the top line, then slide straight back down the same side and flick out on the bottom line, into the next letter. Lowercase u starts at the middle line. Slide down, curve along the bottom line and up to the middle line, then slide straight back down and flick out. On both, the right side is drawn twice: up to the line, then straight back down over it. Written alone, as on the sheet, lowercase u has no lead-in stroke; in a word, the join from the letter before runs up into where it starts.
Watch for: Lowercase u that stops after the curve up, which makes it a v. The u's right side comes straight back down over itself. Lowercase u with a sharp point at the bottom, like a print v. The bottom is a curve.
Common questions about cursive U
- How is cursive u different from cursive v?
- At the end. After the curve up to the middle line, u comes straight back down and flicks out; v stops at the middle line, and the next letter leaves from there.
- Is cursive capital U just a big lowercase u?
- Nearly. The capital adds a small hook at the start, and both of its sides reach the top line.
