Cursive M worksheets
Cursive M worksheets for third grade, for second and fourth graders too. The sheet traces capital M and lowercase m on alternate rows as dotted outlines on penmanship lines, with room to write each one alone. The two are the same shape at two heights, so one motion learns both.

One page for every cursive letter
Each cursive letter has its own page, with how the capital and the lowercase are formed and a sheet of that one letter to trace.
What's on each sheet
- One letter, capital and small. Trace the letter on each line. Then write it yourself on the rest of the line. 6 rows per page.
Every version prints on US Letter or A4, with its answer key on the last page.
A mixed sheet that draws letters from the whole alphabet prints from 3rd grade cursive alphabet.
How to teach this
Capital M starts with a small hook on the left, a little below the top line. Swing up to the top line and slide straight down to the bottom line. Go back up the same line partway, make a hump that reaches the top line and come down to the bottom line, then do it again: a second hump to the top line, down to the bottom line, and a flick out. Lowercase m is the same at the small size. Start with a small hook at the middle line, slide down, go back up and make two humps that each reach the middle line, then flick out on the bottom line. The flick is where the next letter joins. Count the humps aloud: m has two, n has one. Written alone, as on the sheet, lowercase m has no lead-in stroke; in a word, the join from the letter before runs up into where it starts.
Watch for: Three humps on a lowercase m. After the first line down it has two. Humps that start from the bottom line with a sharp point. Each hump goes back up the line a little before it curves over.
Common questions about cursive M
- How many humps does cursive m have?
- Two, after the first line down. Children often add a third because they count the lines down instead of the humps.
- Is cursive capital M the same as lowercase m?
- Same shape, taller. Both start with a small hook, go down, and make two humps, so learning one gets your child most of the way to the other.
