One page for every cursive letter
Each cursive letter has its own page, with how the capital and the lowercase are formed and a sheet of that one letter to trace.
What's on each sheet
- One letter, capital and small. Trace the letter on each line. Then write it yourself on the rest of the line. 6 rows per page.
Every version prints on US Letter or A4, with its answer key on the last page.
A mixed sheet that draws letters from the whole alphabet prints from 3rd grade cursive alphabet.
How to teach this
Capital K is two strokes. The first is the same as capital H: a small wave a little below the top line on the left, then straight down to the bottom line. Lift the pencil. Start at the top line on the right with a small hook, curve down and to the left until you meet the first line at the middle, then kick a leg out and down to the bottom line and flick up into the next letter. Lowercase k starts on the bottom line and swings up into a tall loop at the top line, then comes straight down to the bottom line. Go back up partway, make a small loop to the right that reaches the middle line, bring it back in to the line, then kick down to the bottom line and flick out.
Watch for: Lowercase k with a plain hump instead of the small loop. That is an h. The k's loop closes back on the line before the kick. Capital K's arm and leg drawn as two straight sticks, as in print. In cursive the arm curves in to the line and the leg curves out of it in one stroke.
Common questions about cursive K
- How do capital H and capital K start?
- The same way: a small wave near the top on the left and a straight line down. They only part after the pencil lifts, so practising them together saves time.
- Why does my child's cursive k look like an h?
- The small loop is missing. After the tall loop, k goes back up, makes a little loop that touches the middle line and closes on the line, then kicks out. Trace one slowly and say loop, close, kick.
