One page for every cursive letter
Each cursive letter has its own page, with how the capital and the lowercase are formed and a sheet of that one letter to trace.
What's on each sheet
- One letter, capital and small. Trace the letter on each line. Then write it yourself on the rest of the line. 6 rows per page.
Every version prints on US Letter or A4, with its answer key on the last page.
A mixed sheet that draws letters from the whole alphabet prints from 3rd grade cursive alphabet.
How to teach this
Capital H is two strokes. Start a little below the top line on the left with a small wave, then slide straight down to the bottom line. Lift the pencil. Start at the top line on the right and slide straight down to the bottom line, go back up the same line partway, make a wide loop to the left at the middle line that reaches over to the first line, and finish with a short stroke out to the right across the line. It ends there, so capital H does not join. Lowercase h starts on the bottom line, swings up into a tall loop that touches the top line and comes straight down to the bottom line. Go back up the line partway, make a hump that reaches the middle line, come down to the bottom line and flick out.
Watch for: Lowercase h with the hump stretched up past the middle line, so it looks like a tall n beside the loop. The hump stops at the middle line. Capital H with a flat crossbar, as in print. The cursive H has a loop that swings left and then crosses out to the right.
Common questions about cursive H
- Why does cursive capital H need two strokes?
- The left line and the right line are drawn separately, with a lift in between. Everything after the lift is one stroke: down the right line, back up, loop, and out. That last stroke stops short, so the letter after an H starts on its own.
- What is the difference between cursive h and cursive k?
- The part after the tall loop. h makes a plain hump to the middle line; k makes a small loop that comes back to the line before kicking out.
