Cursive B worksheets

The picture follows the options you pick.

Cursive B worksheets for third grade, with second and fourth graders welcome. The sheet traces capital B and lowercase b on alternate rows as dotted outlines on penmanship lines, then leaves room on each row to write it alone. The two look nothing alike in cursive, so each gets its own rows.

One page for every cursive letter

Each cursive letter has its own page, with how the capital and the lowercase are formed and a sheet of that one letter to trace.

What's on each sheet

Every version prints on US Letter or A4, with its answer key on the last page.

A mixed sheet that draws letters from the whole alphabet prints from 3rd grade cursive alphabet.

How to teach this

Capital B starts with a little hook on the left, about halfway between the top line and the middle line. Swing up to the top line and slide straight down to the bottom line. Go back up that line and make two bumps on the right: a small one that comes in to a tiny loop at the middle line, then a bigger one down to the bottom line that curls back in. The curl ends inside the letter, so capital B does not join. Lowercase b starts on the bottom line, swings up into a tall loop that touches the top line, comes straight down to the bottom line, then curves up the right side and stops at the middle line. Because b ends high, the stroke into the next letter runs along the middle line, not the bottom one, after a small curl there.

Watch for: A lowercase b that ends on the bottom line, like an l with a bump. It finishes at the middle line, and the next letter leaves from there. Capital B's bottom bump closed onto the stem, as in print. In cursive it curls back in and stops short of the line.

Common questions about cursive B

Why doesn't my child's cursive b connect at the bottom?
It shouldn't. Lowercase b is one of four letters, with o, v and w, that end at the middle line. The join leaves from the top of the b and runs across to the next letter.
Does cursive capital B join the next letter?
No. It ends with a curl inside its bottom bump, so the next letter starts on its own.
