A mixed sheet that draws letters from the whole alphabet prints from 3rd grade cursive alphabet.
How to teach this
Capital I starts a little below the middle line with a short flat stroke drawn to the left. Curve down and around along the bottom line, swing up through the middle to the top line, loop over to the left and come straight down to the bottom line, where the stroke carries on into the next letter. The curl at the bottom left is the same shape as the bottom of capital F. Lowercase i starts at the middle line. Slide straight down to the bottom line and flick up and out. Dot it last, above the letter, after the flick. The flick is where the next letter joins. Written alone, as on the sheet, lowercase i has no lead-in stroke; in a word, the join from the letter before runs up into where it starts.
Watch for: Capital I written like a print I or a J. The cursive I starts with the short flat stroke and the curl at the bottom left, then climbs to its loop. Dotting the i before the flick, which breaks the stroke. Flick first, dot after.
Common questions about cursive I
- Where does cursive capital I start?
- Low on the left, with a short flat stroke, below the middle line. From there it curls down along the bottom line, climbs to a loop at the top line and comes straight down, ending on the bottom line where the next letter joins. Some school charts draw capital I another way, so follow your child's class chart if it differs.
- When does the dot go on a cursive i?
- Last, after the flick. In a word, many children write the whole word and then go back to dot every i and cross every t.
