Cursive P worksheets
Cursive P worksheets for third grade, for second and fourth graders as well. The sheet traces capital P and lowercase p on alternate rows as dotted outlines on penmanship lines, with room to write each one alone. Capital P is how capital B and R begin, so it is a good one to get right.

One page for every cursive letter
Each cursive letter has its own page, with how the capital and the lowercase are formed and a sheet of that one letter to trace.
What's on each sheet
- One letter, capital and small. Trace the letter on each line. Then write it yourself on the rest of the line. 6 rows per page.
Every version prints on US Letter or A4, with its answer key on the last page.
A mixed sheet that draws letters from the whole alphabet prints from 3rd grade cursive alphabet.
How to teach this
Capital P starts with a little hook on the left, about halfway between the top line and the middle line. Swing up to the top line and slide straight down to the bottom line. Go back up that line and make one bump to the right that curves back in just under the middle line, stopping short of the line. It does not join the next letter. Lowercase p starts on the bottom line. Swing up to the middle line, slide straight down below the bottom line, and loop: around the bottom and back up on the left, crossing the line just above the bottom line. Then go up and around a round bump on the right that comes back down to the bottom line, where the next letter joins.
Watch for: Capital P's bump joined to the line at the middle, closing it as in print. In cursive it curls in and stops just short. A lowercase p whose round bump never comes back down to the bottom line, so it looks like an open hook. The bump closes on the line, and the next letter joins from there.
Common questions about cursive P
- Does cursive p have a loop below the line?
- In this style, yes: a narrow loop. Some school charts draw the tail as a straight line down and back up instead. Either is fine, as long as your child makes it the same way every time.
- Which cursive capitals start like P?
- B and R. All three begin with the small hook on the left, the climb to the top line and the straight line down. What differs is what comes after the line.
