Cursive E worksheets
Cursive E worksheets for third grade, and for second graders meeting the loop letters. The sheet traces capital E and lowercase e as dotted outlines on alternate rows, with space after each to write it alone. Lowercase e is the first loop most children learn, which makes this a good early page.

One page for every cursive letter
Each cursive letter has its own page, with how the capital and the lowercase are formed and a sheet of that one letter to trace.
What's on each sheet
- One letter, capital and small. Trace the letter on each line. Then write it yourself on the rest of the line. 6 rows per page.
Every version prints on US Letter or A4, with its answer key on the last page.
A mixed sheet that draws letters from the whole alphabet prints from 3rd grade cursive alphabet.
How to teach this
Capital E starts a little below the top line on the right with a small hook. Curve up over the top and down into a small bump that ends at the middle line in a short flat stroke to the right. Come back along the flat stroke and make a bigger bump down and around to the bottom line, then finish up and to the right. In this cursive the middle of the E is that short flat stroke, not a little loop. Lowercase e starts on the bottom line. Slant up to the middle line, loop back over to the left, come down around to the bottom line and swing up and out. Both e's end with an exit stroke, so both join the next letter.
Watch for: A lowercase e with no loop, so it looks like an i without a dot. The upstroke has to turn back over itself at the middle line. Capital E with two bumps the same size. The top one is smaller.
Common questions about cursive E
- Why does cursive capital E look like a backward 3?
- That is its shape: two curves on the left, small on top and big below, meeting at the middle line. It shares nothing with the print E's straight lines, which is why it needs practice of its own.
- Is cursive e just a small cursive l?
- Same movement, different size. The e loop stops at the middle line and the l loop goes up to the top line. An e that grows too tall reads as an l.
