Number 14 worksheets

Number 14 tracing worksheet for kindergarten, the numeral as dotted outlines on penmanship guides
A real sample sheet.

A number 14 worksheet for kindergarten, for five and six year olds. It prints eight rows of 14 as dotted outlines on penmanship guides, with room after each trace to write 14 alone. Fourteen is one ten and four more. Its name says the four first, so the order of the two numerals is the thing to watch.

One page for every number

Each number from 1 to 20 has its own page, with its strokes in words, the mix-ups to watch for and a sheet of that one numeral to trace. The numbers 1 to 10 are preschool pages and 11 to 20 kindergarten ones.

What's on each sheet

Every version prints on US Letter or A4, with its answer key on the last page.

Whole ranges, like 1 to 10 or 11 to 20, print from one form on Kindergarten number tracing.

How to teach this

Make the 1 first, one straight line from the top line to the bottom line. Then the 4, which takes two strokes: start on the top line, pull down to just below the middle and go straight across to the right, then lift and draw a second line straight down through the crossing line to the bottom line. The 4 on this sheet is open at the top. Say one, then down, across, lift, down, and read the 14 aloud when it is done. Fourteen days make two weeks, so count them on a calendar, one row of seven and then the next.

Watch for: Writing 41 for 14. Fourteen says the four first, so the 4 goes down first. The 1 is the ten and belongs on the left; a dot at the left of each row is a good reminder. The 4 facing the wrong way, with the crossing line pointing left, away from the long line. The first stroke goes down and then across to the right.

Common questions about number 14

My child writes 41 for 14. Is that normal?
Very normal. They hear four first and write it first. Show 14 as a full ten frame and four counters, point to the 1 for the ten, and trace the row saying one ten and four.
Should the 4 in 14 be open or closed?
The sheet prints the open 4, two straight strokes, because it is the easier one to write. A closed 4 in a book is the same number. Keep to one shape in your child's own writing.
