Number 13 worksheets
A number 13 worksheet for kindergarten, for five and six year olds. It prints eight rows of 13 as dotted outlines on penmanship guides, with room after each trace to write 13 alone. Thirteen is one ten and three more, and its name starts with a sound like three, which is why children often write it as 31.

One page for every number
Each number from 1 to 20 has its own page, with its strokes in words, the mix-ups to watch for and a sheet of that one numeral to trace. The numbers 1 to 10 are preschool pages and 11 to 20 kindergarten ones.
What's on each sheet
- Number tracing. Trace each number across the line. Then write it yourself on the rest of the line. 8 rows per page.
Every version prints on US Letter or A4, with its answer key on the last page.
Whole ranges, like 1 to 10 or 11 to 20, print from one form on Kindergarten number tracing.
How to teach this
The 1 comes first, a straight line from the top line to the bottom line. Lift, leave a small gap, and make the 3: start on the top line at the left, curve round to the right and back in to the middle, then curve round again, a little bigger, and come back to the bottom line on the left. Two bumps, both pointing right. A child who writes what they hear puts the 3 first, so say one ten and three as you trace. Show 13 with a full ten frame and three counters beside it.
Watch for: Writing 31 for 13. The name starts with a sound like three, so the 3 comes out first. The 1 stands for the ten and always sits on the left. A 3 with its bumps facing left, like a capital E with curves. Both bumps point right, away from the 1. Mixing up thirteen and thirty when listening. Say thirteen slowly with the teen stretched out, and show it as ten counters and three more.
Common questions about number 13
- Why does my child write 31 instead of 13?
- They write the number in the order they hear it. Thirteen begins with a sound like three, so the 3 goes down first. It is one of the most common teen mistakes, and it fades as they learn that the 1 on the left is the ten.
- How do I show what 13 means?
- Fill a ten frame with ten counters and put three more beside it. That is 13: the 1 is the full frame and the 3 is the extra counters. Then trace a row together.
