Kindergarten number tracing worksheets

The picture follows the options you pick.

Kindergartners write the numerals 0 to 20 (K.CC.A.3), and this sheet is the handwriting side of that: each numeral as a dotted outline to trace, then written alone on the same guides. The counting pages pair the numbers with quantities; this page trains the hand.

One page for every number

Each number from 1 to 20 has its own page, with its strokes in words, the mix-ups to watch for and a sheet of that one numeral to trace. The numbers 1 to 10 are preschool pages and 11 to 20 kindergarten ones.

The kind of words you'll practice

Trace each number across the line. Then write it yourself on the rest of the line.

Each word appears twice in light gray for tracing, then once as a blank line for writing it without help.

This sheet doesn't change from one print to the next. The same choices always give the same page, so a whole group can work from matching copies.

What's on a kindergarten sheet

Every version prints on US Letter or A4, with its answer key on the last page.

How to teach this

Watch the start point on 2, 3, 5 and 7: they all begin at the top left or top right, and starting at the bottom is the habit that produces reversals. When 1 to 10 is steady, print 11 to 20 and talk about how each is a 1 and another numeral side by side.

Watch for: A number is a shape before it is a quantity. Say the number's name on each trace, but do not turn the row into a counting lesson; the counting pages do that. Reversed numbers, 3 and 7 especially, are normal at this age. Fix them by watching the start point, not by erasing the result.

Common questions about kindergarten number tracing

Is this the same as the writing numbers 0 to 20 page?
That page mixes numerals with counting and prints a fresh handful each time. This one is handwriting only: every numeral in a range, in order, as a dotted outline.
Can I print 1 to 100?
Not on a tracing sheet; a hundred numerals need a chart, and the hundreds chart on the site prints them. Tracing stops at 20, where the numerals stop being new shapes.
