One page for every line and shape
Each kind of line and each shape has its own page, with where to start, which way to go and a sheet of just that one to trace.
What's on each sheet
- One shape. Start at the dot and go the way the arrow points. Trace each shape, then draw one yourself. 5 rows per page.
Every version prints on US Letter or A4, with its answer key on the last page.

How to teach this
Start on the dot at the top point. Slide down to the right to the bottom corner and stop. Go straight across the bottom to the left corner, stop, then slide back up to the dot. Down, across, up. The two slanted lines are the hard part, because they go diagonally, and diagonal lines usually come a little after straight ones, around age four or five. If the slants wobble, practice the slanted line rows on the main lines and shapes sheet first.
Watch for: Rounding the top into a dome. The top is a sharp point: stop there before sliding down. Adding a fourth side. Count the corners together after each one: one, two, three, back to the start. Leaving the bottom open, like a tent. The last line goes all the way back to the dot.
Common questions about triangle tracing
- Why is a triangle harder than a square?
- Its sides slant. Straight lines across and down come first; slanted lines need more control, and most children copy a triangle at around five.
- Does a triangle have to point up?
- No. A triangle is any shape with three straight sides, whichever way it points. This sheet draws it pointing up because that is the easiest way to start.
- How many triangles should my child trace at once?
- One or two rows. Five careful triangles are worth more than a page of rushed ones.
