One page for every line and shape

Each kind of line and each shape has its own page, with where to start, which way to go and a sheet of just that one to trace.

What's on each sheet

Every version prints on US Letter or A4, with its answer key on the last page.

A mixed sheet of lines, waves, zigzags and shapes prints from Preschool tracing lines and shapes.

How to teach this

The curves over the top are the humps of the small letters n, m, h and r. The curves along the bottom are the bowl of u and the bottom of y. Start at the dot, follow the arrow, and come all the way back down (or up) to the line before starting the next curve. Keep the crayon on the paper to the end of the row. Say "over" or "under" for each curve as you go, and keep them all the same size.

Watch for: Flattening the curves into points. These are round at the top or at the bottom, not sharp like a zigzag. Stopping halfway down a bump. Come all the way back to the line before the next curve begins. Making the bumps smaller and smaller. Each curve should fill the dotted one.

Common questions about curved lines tracing

Why are there two kinds of curves on the sheet?
Letters use both. The curve over the top is in n, m, h and r; the curve along the bottom is in u and y. Three rows of each give a child both movements.
Are curved lines harder than straight lines?
Yes. A curve needs the hand to turn smoothly as it moves, so it usually comes after straight lines, slanted lines and zigzags.
What should my child do after curved lines?
Loops, then the circle. The loops page and the shape pages are linked from this one.
