5th grade division word problems worksheets
Word problems for grade 5 divide by two-digit divisors (5.NBT.B.6): 288 juice boxes in cases of 24, 375 miles spread over 15 days. The reasoning is familiar by now. The long division is longer, and interpreting the remainder in context stays part of nearly every answer.

How to teach this
Two-digit divisors make estimating the natural first move: about how many 24s fit in 288? Have your child write that guess down first before dividing, then compare. When the long division misfires, multiply the quotient back and add the remainder. That single habit finds nearly every error without you having to hunt for it.
Watch for: Kids write the remainder into the answer no matter what the question asks, so the school needs '6 r 4' vans. Ask what the leftover means in the story. Sometimes it rounds the answer up, sometimes it gets dropped, and sometimes it is the answer. Kids treat division as brand-new learning instead of multiplication reversed. Have them check every quotient by multiplying back: if 42 ÷ 7 = 6, then 7 × 6 must rebuild 42. Kids divide the numbers in the order they appear, even when the total comes second in the story. Have them find the total first and say it out loud. The big amount is the thing being split.
