5th grade long division without remainders worksheets

Tap to see another sample sheet. The picture follows the difficulty you pick.

Long division of three- and four-digit numbers by one-digit divisors, every answer exact. Fifth graders use it to make the cycle automatic before two-digit divisors, with zero-digit quotients included so the bring-down step is honest.

The kind of problems you'll get

Divide. Write the quotient above the bar.

  1. 9580 ÷ 2 =

    Answer: 4790

  2. 6690 ÷ 3 =

    Answer: 2230

  3. 9408 ÷ 2 =

    Answer: 4704

Every print pulls a fresh set of problems at this level, so a make-up test or a second sibling never gets the same sheet.

What's on a 5th grade sheet

The sample sheet above has 9 problems. Its answers run from 153 to 4790. On the 4th grade sample they run from 51 to 482. This sheet is aligned to 5.NBT.B.6. The 4th grade sheet is aligned to 4.NBT.B.6.

Every version prints on US Letter or A4, with its answer key after the problems.

How to teach this

Have your child estimate the quotient's size first (2,035 ÷ 5 is about 400) so a dropped zero digit stands out. The exact answers mean a non-zero final remainder is a signal to redo one cycle, not the whole problem. When this is fluent, the with-remainders page and then two-digit divisors follow.

Watch for: Kids skip the zero in the quotient when the divisor does not go into the next digit (writing 47 instead of 407). Every bring-down gets a digit in the answer, even if it is 0. Kids stop subtracting once an answer 'looks done' and never check that the last remainder is zero. On this page it always is; if it is not, a step is wrong.
