Fifth graders multiply three-digit by two-digit numbers with the two-line algorithm: one partial product for the ones digit, one shifted left for the tens, then a sum. It is the largest shape of the standard algorithm, and the sheet keeps to it alone.

Every version prints on US Letter or A4, with its answer key after the problems.

How to teach this

The idea is the double-digit page's idea with a longer first line. Watch two things: the shift on the second line, and carries from line one leaking into line two. An estimate first (300 × 20 = 6,000 for 324 × 15) frames the answer. Nine problems with work shown beats more done sloppily.

Watch for: Kids line up the second partial product under the first instead of shifting it one place left. The second line is tens, so it starts one column over. Kids reuse the first line's carry marks on the second line. Cross them out between lines.

Common questions about 5th grade 3-digit by 2-digit multiplication

Yes. Each problem has space for both lines and the sum; the key shows the final answer.
What should my child do before this page?
Be fluent with double-digit (2-digit by 2-digit) multiplication. This page adds a column, not a new idea.
