2nd grade character traits worksheets
Second grade character traits worksheets pair a story with two kinds of questions: which word best describes this character, and which action proves it. The trait word never appears in the story, so the only path to it runs through what the character does.

How to teach this
Use the courtroom game: the trait is the claim, and your child is the lawyer who must prove it. "Kind? Show me the evidence." Every trait answer on the sheet has an action behind it, and asking for proof builds the habit the questions test.
Watch for: Traits and feelings get mixed up constantly. Scared during a storm is a feeling; brave, careful, or curious is who someone keeps being across the whole story. Kids pick the trait that matches ONE loud moment. The right trait fits the character's actions all the way through, and the evidence questions check exactly that.
Common questions about 2nd grade character traits
- What is a character trait?
- It is what a person is like on the inside: kind, careful, stubborn, brave. Stories show traits through actions instead of naming them, and naming them is the practice.
- Why isn't the answer word in the passage?
- That is the skill. If the story said the word, the question would be a word hunt. Reading actions and choosing the word that fits is what the standard asks.
