Y as a vowel worksheets
Each print is a different sheet with its own answer key. You don't need to sign up.
At the end of a word, y turns into a vowel. In little words it says long i (fly, sky). At the end of longer words it usually says long e (happy, puppy), but when the last part is stressed, y keeps long i: reply, July.
Two grades, one set of words: both print from the same 32. Print one here, or open a grade for examples and teaching notes.

Each print is a different sheet with its own answer key. You don't need to sign up.
When y ends a word, it works as a vowel: long i in short words (my, sky, try), and usually long e in longer ones (baby, silly, happy). First graders sort by the sound they hear and discover the syllable pattern behind it.
-
2nd grade
Second graders sort y words automatically and apply the pattern in reading and spelling, including the exceptions: reply and deny keep long i because the beat falls on the last part, while twenty and penny say long e.
