Kindergarten weather words worksheets
Weather words name what the sky is doing: sunny, snowy, windy, cloudy, stormy, foggy. They come up every morning in the kindergarten calendar routine, which is where most children first hear them. This sheet asks a child to name the weather in six pictures and write the word.

How to teach this
Do the sheet on a day whose weather is on it, and start by looking out of a real window. Say today's word first. Every word here ends in y, which is worth pointing out once: the sheet is the first place many children meet that pattern.
Watch for: Writing snow for snowy, or wind for windy. The bank holds the weather word, which describes the day, not the thing that falls or blows. Read the bank before writing. Writing a season. Snowy is a day and winter is a time of year. This sheet is weather only, and there is no season on it or in the bank. Reading the same picture two ways. Cloudy and foggy both hide the view. Cloudy is grey above with the ground clear; foggy is grey all around, and half the house has gone.
Common questions about kindergarten weather words
- Which standard is this?
- None in particular. Weather vocabulary is a kindergarten classroom unit, not a language standard, so the page is marked conventional.
- Why only six pictures?
- Six is every kind of weather the picture bank draws well, and one skill per sheet means no seasons and no times of day among them. The six words repeat and the order changes with every print.
