3rd grade 9 times table worksheets

Tap to see another sample sheet. The picture follows the difficulty you pick.

Every problem on these sheets is from the 9 times table, 9 × 0 through 9 × 12, shuffled so your child recalls each fact rather than counting down the list. Third graders use one-table sheets to fix a single table before mixing it with the rest.

Every version prints on US Letter or A4, with its answer key after the problems.

How to teach this

Two patterns carry the 9s: the tens digit is one less than the multiplier, and the digits add to nine. The finger trick (fold down the finger you are multiplying by) shows the same thing. Use the patterns to check while the facts are being memorised, then aim for plain recall.

Watch for: Kids apply the digit trick to 9 × 11 and 9 × 12, where it stops working. It holds for 9 × 1 through 9 × 10. Kids remember the finger trick but not the fact, and fingers are slow in a timed grid. Use the trick to check, not to answer.

Common questions about 3rd grade 9 times table

What is the 9 times table trick?
For 9 × 1 to 9 × 10, the tens digit is one less than the number and the digits add up to 9. 9 × 6: 5 and 4, so 54.
Does the trick work for 9 × 11 and 9 × 12?
No. 99 and 108 have to be learned as facts. Both are on the sheet.
