Kindergarten count the objects worksheets
Count the objects prints twelve groups of pictures for kindergarten, one kind of object to a group, with a line under each one for the number. Your child counts the apples, then the bells, then the kites, and writes how many. The objects sit in rows of five, the same shape the dots take on the counting sheet.

The kind of problems you'll get
Count the objects. Write how many.
-
Count the objects: 1, 2, 3, 4.
Answer: 4
Most problems on this sheet sit beside a picture, model or diagram, so this is the worked example the sheet itself prints. The answer key on page two prints the answer under every problem.
Every print pulls a fresh set of problems at this level, so a make-up test or a second sibling never gets the same sheet.
What's on each sheet
- Count the objects. Count the objects. Write how many. 12 problems per page.
Every version prints on US Letter or A4, with its answer key after the problems.
This sheet is one of the versions on the Kindergarten counting & number recognition 0–10 page, with its own difficulty choices and its own answer key.
How to teach this
Have your child touch each picture as they say its number, then stop and say the last number once more before writing it. The numeral goes down after the counting has finished, not during it. Rows of five let a child who already sees five count on from there instead of starting at one again, which is the step past counting every object. If a group of nine comes out as eight, have them cross off each object as they count it. K.CC.B.5 is this exact task: count out how many, then say and write the number.
Watch for: Kids name the objects instead of counting them, so a row of ducks comes back as "ducks" rather than four. Ask how many ducks there are, and move their finger while they say the numbers. Kids count the parts of a picture instead of the pictures. A cookie with chips on it invites exactly that. Point at the whole cookie once, say one, and the rest usually follows.
Common questions about kindergarten count the objects
- How high do the numbers go?
- Up to 10. Each group holds between 1 and 10 objects, and the twelve groups on a sheet work through every number before any of them comes round again.
- Why objects instead of dots?
- Dots are the quicker picture, and the counting sheet on the parent page gives you those. Objects are the slower one, and for a child who counts by rote they make the question real: five ducks are five things, not five marks.
- Do the pictures give the answer away?
- No. One group draws one kind of object and nothing else, so the only thing on the card that says how many is how many copies there are.
