Cutting practice is scissor skills for three and four year olds: strips to cut apart, each with a bold dashed line to cut along, straight first, then corners, then curves, then a row of shapes to cut out. The lines are the same strokes as the tracing sheet, because the hand that steers a pencil is the hand that steers scissors.

  2. Kindergarten

    Examples and teaching notes

Cutting practice is scissor control for a kindergartener: strips to cut apart, each with a dashed line to cut along, from straight lines through zigzags and waves to shapes cut out whole. Steering scissors along a line trains the same small muscles and the same two-handed control that printing letters needs.
