What's on a 6th grade sheet

Some of the words:

Good afternoon.Sincerely, AlexCould you please repeat that?Hey!What’s up?See ya!No way!Wanna play?Yeah, sure.Oops, my bad.

Every version prints on US Letter or A4, with its answer key on the last page.

How to teach this

Audit real writing tasks together: which register does a science report want? A story's dialogue? A letter to the editor? Register choice is the first decision of every piece, made visible.

Watch for: Informal is not wrong English: it is the right English for friends and family. The skill is matching the register to the room, not banning the casual. The signals are learnable: contractions, slang, and exclamations mark informal; full words, please/thank-you frames, and greetings-with-titles mark formal.

Common questions about 6th grade formal or informal

How does register connect to real writing?
Every piece opens with a silent register decision. Essays and reports run formal; dialogue and journals can relax. Writers who choose on purpose sound intentional everywhere.
What is the subtlest register skill?
Mixing deliberately: a formal essay that lands one plain, casual sentence for emphasis. That move comes later, but it grows from exactly this sorting.
