Fractions skills for 5th grade
- Add and subtract unlike denominators Fluency · answer key Different bottoms can't add. Rename both fractions with the same denominator first, then add or subtract the tops.
- Divide fractions Fluency · answer key Dividing asks how many times the second amount fits into the first: 6 ÷ 1/3 counts the thirds in 6.
- Fraction of a number Fluency · answer key Divide by the bottom number to find one part, then multiply by the top to take that many parts.
- Mixed numbers & improper fractions Fluency · answer key Divide the top by the bottom to turn 7/4 into wholes and leftovers. Multiply and add to go back the other way.
- Multiply fractions Fluency · answer key Multiply the tops together and the bottoms together. You do not need a common denominator.
- Simplifying fractions Fluency · answer key Divide the top and the bottom by the same number, and keep going until only 1 divides them both.
