2nd grade 10 or 100 more or less worksheets
10 or 100 more or less worksheets give second graders twelve prompts like "10 more than 759 is __" and "100 less than 243 is __" to answer mentally. The numbers are three digits, the prompts mix all four directions, and the point is seeing which digit moves rather than counting. Every print draws fresh numbers.

How to teach this
Ask which digit will change before your child answers: ten moves the tens place, one hundred moves the hundreds place. Say it with the number in view. If counting by ones starts, stop and point at the digit instead. The prompts that cross a hundred, like 10 more than 593, are the ones to watch; a hundreds chart shows the row ending and the next one starting. When the sheet is easy, drop the paper and call out "100 less than 806" for a spoken answer.
Watch for: Kids read '100 more' and add 10, or the other way round. Have them underline the number in the prompt before answering. Kids change the ones digit along with the tens, turning 664 into 675. Only one place moves. Kids stall when the tens digit is 9, as in 10 more than 593. Model it with the hundreds chart: the row ends and the next hundred begins.
Common questions about 2nd grade 10 or 100 more or less
- How is this different from the first grade ten more, ten less page?
- First grade works within 100 with tens only. Second grade adds hundreds and works with three-digit numbers, which is where the tens digit can roll over. If ten more than 47 is not yet automatic, start with the first grade page.
- Do the sheets mix all four kinds?
- Yes. 10 more, 10 less, 100 more, and 100 less all appear on every sheet, shuffled, so each prompt has to be read.
- What happens at the edges, like 100 more than 950?
- The sheets keep every answer between 100 and 999, so a prompt never asks for a number above 1,000 or below 100.
- Why is this worth a whole page?
- Moving one place value at a time is the heart of mental addition and subtraction in second grade. A child who sees that 10 more than 759 is 769 without counting is ready for 759 plus 30.
