Fill-in multiplication chart
A fill-in multiplication chart is a completed grid with some products removed. The child writes the missing ones using the row, the column and the neighbours as clues. Each print blanks a different set of cells.
Free printable PDF, 3rd grade to 4th grade, answer key on page 2.
A new set of blanks every click. The answer key is page 2.
What is on the sheet
The table below is the sheet as it prints with these options: 1 to 12, About a third.
Fill in the missing products.
The printed sheet leaves some cells empty. This is the filled chart, the same one that prints as the answer key on page 2.

Why the gaps move
A chart with the same gaps every time gets memorised as a picture. This one picks a new set of empty cells each print, so the child has to read the factors rather than remember where the blanks were last week. Two children at the same table get different sheets, and a sheet printed on Monday is not the one printed on Friday.
The neighbours are legitimate clues. If 6 times 7 is missing but 6 times 6 shows 36, adding one more six is exactly the reasoning the chart is meant to build. As the child improves, choose "About half" so fewer neighbours are there to lean on.
Marking it
Page 2 prints the full chart with the cells that were blank on page 1 marked in green, so whoever is checking can go straight to those and skip the rest. Keep a tally of the facts that were wrong two prints in a row; those are the ones to practise with the mad minute sheets.
Common questions
- Is the sheet the same if I print it twice?
- No. The missing cells are chosen fresh each time you press print, so every copy is a new sheet. Save the PDF if you want the same one again.
- Which size should a 3rd grader use?
- The 1 to 10 grid with about a quarter missing at first, then 1 to 12 with a third missing by the spring. The 4th grade version of the facts page uses the same 1 to 12 grid.
