2nd grade
Measurement word problems for second grade put the ruler right on the page: each story is about something real, like a ribbon or a crayon, printed above a ruler. Your child reads the length in whole inches or centimeters and writes it with its unit.
-
3rd grade
Third grade measurement word problems keep the printed ruler and sharpen the reading: objects can start partway along it, so your child measures the span from start to end instead of grabbing the last number. Half and quarter inch readings show up here too, so an answer like 2 3/4 in is normal.

4th grade Core grade
Word problems for grade 4 trade the ruler for unit conversions inside stories: feet and inches, meters and centimeters, kilograms and grams, liters and milliliters. Your child converts to one unit, then adds, subtracts, or divides, the measurement work 4.MD.A.1 and 4.MD.A.2 describe.
-
5th grade
Fifth grade conversions get heavier: bigger numbers, both directions, and answers that land in mixed units, like 272 minutes coming back as 4 hr 32 min. Some teachers call these story problems, and at this grade the conversion table has to run both ways.
