7th grade collecting terms and constants worksheets
Combine variable terms and constants separately in six expressions with signed fractions or decimals. Easier problems have two terms of each kind. On-level problems have two or three of each kind; harder problems have three or four variable terms and three constants. Each sheet includes variable terms that cancel, leaving a constant answer. The default key includes complete work for every problem. Choose Answers only for final answers without the worked steps.

Answer: 4/3
Every print pulls a fresh set of problems at this level, so a make-up test or a second sibling never gets the same sheet.
What's on a 7th grade sheet
- Collecting terms and constants. Combine like terms. Show your steps. 6 problems per page.
Every version prints on US Letter or A4, with its answer key after the problems.
How to teach this
Ask your child to mark the variable terms and circle the constants. Group each kind with its sign, then use a common denominator for each sum. If the variable terms cancel, write only the remaining constant.
Watch for: A constant cannot be combined with a variable term. Keep the sign attached to each term when grouping it.
Common questions about 7th grade collecting terms and constants
- Which numbers appear?
- All levels use signed fractions and decimals with up to two decimal places. Common denominators are at most 10 for easier problems, 12 for on-level problems and 40 for harder problems.
- Do students find the value of the variable?
- Students simplify expressions. There is no equation to solve.
- What happens when the variable terms cancel?
- Write the remaining constant. Keep it separate from the variable terms throughout your work.
