2nd grade complete sentences worksheets
Second grade complete sentences worksheets use longer word groups, so a fragment can carry plenty of words and still miss its naming part or its action part. Your child picks the complete sentence, which is the same test they will soon run on their own writing.

How to teach this
The traps at this level are long fragments that feel complete. When one fools your child, have them underline the who or what, then the action. One of the two underlines will come up empty. That two-part check works on every item here and on every sentence they will ever write.
Watch for: Kids judge by length: a long group of words like 'the big brown dog with the red collar' feels finished but never tells what happened. Short can be complete (Birds fly.) and long can be broken. Kids trust the capital letter and period. A fragment wearing both is still a fragment; have them ask 'who or what?' and 'what happened?' instead of checking the ends.
Common questions about 2nd grade complete sentences
- What should my child say when they pick an answer?
- Two things: who or what the sentence is about, and what happens. If they can point to both parts, the choice is right. Answers on the key show the complete sentence for every item.
- What comes after this skill?
- Sentence fragments, where your child names the missing part, and later run-on sentences, where two whole ideas are stuck together. All three build the same habit: checking that every sentence tells one whole idea.
