Hundreds chart with missing numbers
A hundreds chart with missing numbers is the 1 to 100 grid with some cells emptied. The child uses the row and column patterns to write what is missing. Every print chooses a different set of gaps.

What is on the sheet
The table below is the sheet as it prints with these options: 1 to 100, About a third.
Write the missing numbers.
The printed sheet leaves some cells empty. This is the filled chart, the same one that prints as the answer key on page 2.

What the gaps ask for
A missing cell can be found two ways: one more than the number to its left, or ten more than the number above. A child who uses only the first is counting; one who reaches for the number above has started to use place value. Watch which way they go, and when they always count along the row, cover the row and leave only the column visible for a few turns.
Because the gaps move on every print, the sheet stays a check on understanding rather than a memory of where the blanks were. Start with about a fifth missing in kindergarten, a third in 1st grade, and half for a 2nd grader who finds the rest easy.
Checking it
Page 2 prints the full chart with the cells that were blank marked in green, so a parent can check only those. Any number written in the wrong cell, off by one or off by ten, shows which of the two moves needs more practice.
Common questions
- Will two copies have the same missing numbers?
- No. Each press of the print button chooses a new set, so children sitting together get different sheets. Save the PDF to reprint the same one.
- How many numbers are missing?
- About a fifth, a third or half of the chart, whichever you choose above the print button. On the 1 to 100 chart that is roughly 20, 30 or 50 cells.
