Blank hundreds chart

A blank hundreds chart is the 10 by 10 grid with no numbers in it. The child writes 1 to 100 in order, one number a cell, and checks the result against the completed chart on page 2.

What is on the sheet

The table below is the sheet as it prints with these options: 1 to 100.

The printed sheet leaves some cells empty. This is the filled chart, the same one that prints as the answer key on page 2.

Writing the numbers

Filling a whole grid from 1 is a kindergarten and 1st grade exercise that shows more than counting. Where a child hesitates, usually at the turn of each row, is where the tens are not yet solid. Where the digits come out reversed is a handwriting note, not a counting one. Most children need two or three tries across a few weeks before the grid fills cleanly.

The chart also works as a dry-erase board. Slip it in a page protector, fill it with a marker, wipe, and the same sheet lasts a term.

Other ways to use the empty grid

Write only the tens down the right column and have the child fill the rest. Write the first row and ask for the rows below by adding ten. Write every other number and ask for the gaps. The missing-numbers chart does the last of these with a fresh set of gaps every print, if you would rather not make the sheet by hand.

Common questions

Is the answer key really needed for a hundreds chart?
For the parent who is checking, yes. Page 2 is the completed chart at the same size, so the two can be laid side by side and a slip found in seconds.
Can I print the grid without the answer key?
Print page 1 only in your print dialog. The key is always generated with the sheet so it is there when it is wanted.
