Consonant-le endings (-le, -el, -al) worksheets

Each print is a different sheet with its own answer key. You don't need to sign up.

Words that end in a consonant plus le, el, or al share one final sound: ta-ble, cam-el, med-al. The ending is its own last syllable.

Three grades, each its own sheet. Print one here, or open a grade for examples and teaching notes.

Print by grade

  1. 2nd grade

    Examples and teaching notes

Second graders sort the consonant-le family: words ending -le (table, apple), -el (camel, towel), and -al (metal, pedal). The ending always forms the word's final syllable.

  2. 3rd grade Core grade

    Examples and teaching notes

Each print is a different sheet with its own answer key. You don't need to sign up.

Third graders sort the three spellings quickly and split the words correctly (lit-tle, tun-nel, sig-nal), using the ending as a reliable final chunk in longer words.

  3. 4th grade

    Examples and teaching notes

Fourth graders spell across all three families and know the odds: -le rules, -el and -al are learned clubs, and a handful of each covers most real writing.
