Simplifying fractions worksheets for fourth grade give fractions like 6/8 and ask for the simplest form, 3/4. Your child divides the top and bottom by a common factor until none is left but 1. That's building equivalent fractions in reverse.

5th grade
Fifth grade raises the terms: fractions like 18/24 or 28/42 need bigger common factors, and often more than one round of dividing. The payoff is immediate: a child who simplifies quickly keeps every other fraction skill tidy.
