8th grade subject and object pronouns worksheets
Pronoun case is the form a pronoun takes for its job: I, he, she, we and they as subjects, me, him, her, us and them as objects. Eighth graders use it where it hides: in a compound before an infinitive, after than or as, after except or between, in front of a noun (we students), and in a pair that renames another noun.

The kind of sentences you'll fix
Drop the other person, choose the pronoun that survives, and write it on the line.
-
The band director gave the solo to Camila rather than to (I / me).
Fixed: The band director gave the solo to Camila rather than to me.
- My cousin is two years older than (I / me), but everyone thinks we are twins.
- The tour guide, speaking to (us / we) students, pointed out the oldest bridge in the city.
Every print pulls a new set of sentences at this level, so a make-up test or a second sibling gets a different mix.
What's on an 8th grade sheet
8th grade sheets draw from 61 sentences, 7 to a page. None of these sentences are on 7th grade sheets. 7th grade sheets print 8 to a page.
A few of the sentences, as the answer key corrects them:
- My lab partner measures liquids more carefully than I.
- My grandmother and I planted three rows of tomatoes before the rain started.
- The ranger led Ivy and me along a trail that most hikers never see.
- Fix it. Drop the other person, choose the pronoun that survives, and write it on the line. 7 sentences to fix per page.
Every version prints on US Letter or A4, with its answer key on the last page.
How to teach this
The grade 7 tests still do the work, so the job now is spotting when to use them. Before an infinitive, drop the other person: asked Leo and me to help becomes asked me to help. After than or as, say the missing verb out loud: taller than he is. For we and us in front of a noun, cover the noun: us volunteers cleared the lot becomes us cleared the lot, which your student will hear as wrong right away. A pair that renames a noun, like the two captains, Noah and I, takes the form of the noun it renames, so have them find that noun first.
Watch for: 'And I' is not automatically polite grammar: it is right as a subject and wrong as an object. 'She gave it to Ben and I' fails the drop test instantly. The drop test is the whole skill: remove the other person and say the sentence. Ears trained on English almost never miss the solo version.
Common questions about 8th grade subject and object pronouns
- Is it we students or us students?
- Cover the noun and read the sentence. We students organized the drive becomes we organized the drive, so we. The principal thanked us students becomes the principal thanked us, so us. The noun after the pronoun never changes the answer.
- Why is taller than I correct when taller than me sounds normal?
- In edited writing, than joins two clauses, and the second one has lost its verb: taller than I am. In speech, taller than me is common and nobody minds. On tests and in essays, the finished-sentence version is the one that counts.
- What case goes in a pair like the two finalists, Sofia and I?
- The case of the noun the pair renames. The two finalists, Sofia and I, waited backstage, because finalists is the subject. The judges named two finalists, Sofia and me, because finalists is now the object.
