5th grade fractions to decimals worksheets
Fifth grade conversions bring in the fractions that need a rewrite first: 3/4 becomes 75/100 before it becomes 0.75, and 0.6 goes back to 6/10 and then simplifies to 3/5. The work is finding the matching power of ten.

How to teach this
The pivot question for every problem is the same: what's the equivalent fraction out of 10 or 100? For 3/4, multiply top and bottom by 25; for 0.6, start at 6/10 and divide both by 2. Money is a ready-made model: three quarters of a dollar is 75 cents is 0.75.
Watch for: Kids write 1/4 as 0.4, copying the denominator after the point. The decimal comes from an equivalent fraction out of 10 or 100, and 1/4 is 25/100, so 0.25. Kids stop at 6/10 when converting 0.6. That fraction is correct but not finished; simplify to 3/5 when the answer asks for simplest form.
Common questions about 5th grade fractions to decimals
- How do the answers get written?
- Decimals like 0.75, and fractions in simplest form: 0.6 converts to 3/5, not 6/10. The answer key shows the expected form for every problem.
- What about fractions like 1/3 that don't convert evenly?
- They don't appear. Every fraction on the sheet terminates as a decimal, so each problem has an exact answer. Repeating decimals are a later topic.
