6th grade fractions to decimals worksheets
Sixth grade treats conversion as fluency: halves, fourths, fifths, tenths, and their decimal forms switch back and forth quickly, in both directions and always in simplest form. Knowing 3/4 = 0.75 on sight pays off in ratio and percent work.

Every version prints on US Letter or A4, with its answer key on the last page.
How to teach this
Push the common pairs into memory: 1/2 = 0.5, 1/4 = 0.25, 3/4 = 0.75, 1/5 = 0.2, and their multiples. Time a row and see which conversions still need a written step. When your child simplifies, ask which divisor was used ("divided both by 2") so simplest form becomes a habit, not a guess.
Watch for: Kids write 1/4 as 0.4, copying the denominator after the point. The decimal comes from an equivalent fraction out of 10 or 100, and 1/4 is 25/100, so 0.25. Kids stop at 6/10 when converting 0.6. That fraction is correct but not finished; simplify to 3/5 when the answer asks for simplest form.
Common questions about fractions to decimals
- What's different about the 6th grade sheet?
- Speed and range. The common halves, fourths, and fifths mix with tenths and hundredths, and the goal is converting on sight, the fluency that ratio and percent work assumes.
- Why does simplest form matter here?
- Because 3/5 and 6/10 are the same amount, but everything downstream (comparing, ratios, percents) is easier with the smallest names. Simplifying now saves work later.
