Number chart 1 to 50

A number chart from 1 to 50 shows the first fifty numbers in five rows of ten. It is half a hundreds chart with bigger cells, for the child who counts to 20 easily but is not ready for a page of a hundred numbers.

The step before the hundreds chart

Fifty numbers in rows of ten introduce the two moves a hundreds chart is built on, one more to the right and ten more straight down, with half as many cells to search. Once a child can find any number to 50 on this chart without counting from 1, the hundreds chart is a small step rather than a new thing.

The cells are bigger than a hundreds chart's, so the chart still suits a finger and a coin.

Things to try

Count by tens down the last column. Cover the whole second row and ask for the numbers from memory. Point to 27 and ask what is under it, then what is under that. Shade the fives with a crayon and count them aloud together.

Common questions

Why not just print the hundreds chart?
For a child at the start of 1st grade, a hundred cells is a wall. The 1 to 50 chart has the same layout at twice the size and half the length, so the pattern is easier to see and the numbers easier to touch.
Can I get 1 to 30 or 1 to 40?
1 to 30 is a size on the number chart 1 to 20 page. The 1 to 50 chart is the first one laid out in rows of ten.
