Printable blank calendar
A blank calendar is a month with no dates printed: the days of the week across the top, a box for each day and a line for the month and the year. The child writes in the month, then the dates, starting on the right day.
Free printable PDF, Kindergarten to 3rd grade.
One page, black and white, prints the same every time.
What is on the sheet
The sheet prints with these options: Sunday, Six weeks.
Six weeks of empty boxes under the days of the week, Sunday first, with a line over them for the month and the year. The child writes in the dates; nothing else prints.
Filling in a month
Write the month and the year on the lines first. Find the day of the week the 1st falls on, write 1 in that box in the top row, then count along the row and on down the page to the last day of the month.
Six rows fit every month. Five rows give bigger boxes and fit most months, but a 31 day month that starts at the end of the week runs into a sixth row, so print six for those.
Using it with young children
Kindergarten and 1st grade learn the days and the months in order, and a month the child filled in makes the order easy to see: yesterday is the box to the left, tomorrow the box to the right, and next week is one row down. Mark birthdays, holidays and the last day of school, then count the boxes between them.
Common questions
- Are the dates printed on the calendar?
- No. Every box is empty, so the same sheet works for any month of any year. The child writes the dates in, which is the practice.
- Should the week start on Sunday or Monday?
- Most calendars in the United States start on Sunday, and most in the UK and Europe start on Monday. Pick the one that matches the calendar on the classroom wall.
