Long division with one-digit divisors where every problem leaves a remainder. Fourth graders practise the full cycle and then the last step, naming what is left over, with the check that a remainder must be smaller than the divisor.

  2. 5th grade

    Examples and teaching notes

Long division of three- and four-digit numbers by one-digit divisors, every problem with a remainder. Fifth graders keep the cycle fluent and learn to trust the last subtraction as the remainder, zero-digit quotients included.
