The kind of problems you'll get

Solve each problem. Write the quotient and remainder if any.

  1. 54 ÷ 9 =

    Answer: 6

  2. 25 ÷ 3 =
  3. 47 ÷ 8 =

Every print pulls a fresh set of problems at this level, so a make-up test or a second sibling never gets the same sheet.

What's on each sheet

Every version prints on US Letter or A4, with its answer key on the last page.

How to teach this

Say the sentence: "four goes into fifteen three times with a remainder of three." Check by multiplying back: 4 × 3 + 3 = 15.

Watch for: Remainders mean you made a mistake. A remainder is normal when the number does not divide evenly. The answer is always smaller. Quotients can be small when the divisor is large.

Common questions about division facts

Do we allow remainders or forbid them?
This sheet allows remainders so students see the full range of facts.
