What's on each sheet

Every version prints on US Letter or A4, with its answer key on the last page.

How to teach this

Have your child say each answer as "ten and three make thirteen" before writing it. The sentence does the teaching. If they start counting all the dots from one, cover the full frame and say "this whole frame is ten," then let them count on from there.

Watch for: Kids hear 'fourteen' and write the 4 first, ending up with 41. Say it as 'ten and four' so the 1 for the ten gets written first. Kids think the 1 in 14 just means one. It stands for one whole ten, which is why the full ten-frame matters.

Common questions about teen numbers 11–20

Why do teen numbers trip kids up so much?
In English the words give no clue. 'Thirteen' hides the ten, unlike 'twenty-three'. Ten-frames make the hidden ten visible, which is exactly what these sheets practice.
What does my child actually do on the sheet?
Each problem shows a full ten-frame and a partial one. Your child counts the dots and writes the teen number, from 11 to 19.
