Ending blends (st, nd, mp) worksheets
Ending blends are two-consonant teams at the end of a word where both sounds survive: st, nd, mp. First graders sort words by their final blend, training their ears to catch the second sound instead of dropping it, which is the classic early reading and spelling slip.

Ending blends (st, nd, mp) across the grades
1st grade
Ending blends are two-consonant teams at the end of a word where both sounds survive: st, nd, mp. First graders sort words by their final blend, training their ears to catch the second sound instead of dropping it, which is the classic early reading and spelling slip.
2nd grade
Second graders take the same three endings into longer words: contest, weekend, playground. The blend hides at the end of a second syllable now, so hearing it takes more care, and spelling it right is what keeps -nd and -nt from blurring in real writing.
