The kind of problems you'll get

Write even or odd, or fill in the doubles fact.

  1. Is 18 even or odd?

    Answer: even

  2. Is 32 even or odd?
  3. 18 = ___ + ___

Every print pulls a fresh set of problems at this level, so a make-up test or a second sibling never gets the same sheet.

What's on each sheet

Every version prints on US Letter or A4, with its answer key on the last page.

How to teach this

Start with objects: grab 13 buttons and try to make pairs. The one left over makes it odd. Then connect the pattern to the ones digit so your child can decide without counting. Quiz aloud during errands ("is 16 even or odd?") until the answer comes fast.

Watch for: Kids judge by the first digit and call 21 even. Only the ones digit decides, so 21 is odd. Kids call numbers ending in 0, like 30, odd or 'neither': a 0 in the ones place always means even.

Common questions about even & odd numbers

How do I explain even and odd to a 7-year-old?
Even numbers can be shared fairly between two people with nothing left over. Odd numbers always leave one out. Acting it out with snacks or toys makes it stick.
Is zero even or odd?
Zero is even. It ends in 0 and splits into two equal groups of nothing, strange as that sounds.
