Divide fractions worksheets
Sixth grade opens division to any pair of fractions and gives the general method: keep the first fraction, change ÷ to ×, and flip the second. That's multiplying by the reciprocal. So 2/3 ÷ 1/4 becomes 2/3 × 4/1 = 8/3, in simplest form.

What students need to know
Dividing asks how many times the second amount fits into the first: 6 ÷ 1/3 counts the thirds in 6.
This skill runs from 5th grade through 6th grade. Pick a grade above for level-matched sentences, teaching notes, and worksheets.

5th grade
Fifth grade fraction division stays with two cases: a unit fraction divided by a whole number, like 1/3 ÷ 4, and the reverse, like 6 ÷ 1/3. Kids reason it out: how many thirds fit in six wholes, no flip rule yet.
